NFL legend and Hall of Famer Warren Sapp said he was joining Deion Sanders and his Colorado staff in 2024.
Sanders has not confirmed this move for next season, but it wouldn’t be a shock. Coach Prime built a loaded staff this year and why not add a Hall of Fame defensive lineman to coach up the players.
Sapp joined the Rich Eisen Show to talk about his future plans.
“I want to be there next year,” Sapp said. “I want to be there next year. I’m gonna get everything, the paperwork to work and I’m gonna go to work. Because sitting on my couch …It’s time to go get this degree and then we’re going to go teach these kids … I know something about this game. When you have a quarterback like Shedeur and my D-line go hunt the other quarterback our chances of winning just went through the roof.”
Sapp also commented on Travis Hunter not being able to play over the next few weeks due to injury.
“Why didn’t they throw that kid out of the game,” Sapp said, referring to Colorado State’s Henry Blackburn. “That’s all I want to know.”
Blackburn ended up receiving death threats after the game and Sanders eventually chimed in in support of the Rams defensive back.
“I don’t condone the violence,” Sapp said. “But when we in a 60 minute game, we got eight guys there with zebras on, somebody’s supposed to be able to look at that and say ‘hold on, man.’ We review everything else.”
Sapp signed off his interview with Eisen by putting on a Colorado hat and simply said “Go Buffs.”
Sapp was the No. 12 overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft out of Miami and played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers through the 2003 season. He played the last four years of his career with the then-Oakland Raiders.
A Super Bowl champion (XXXVII), Sapp was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999, a four-time First-Team All-Pro, twice named to the Second-Team, a seven-time Pro Bowler and named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1990s and 2000s.
In 198 games, Sapp had 573 tackles, 96.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, four interceptions and three defensive touchdowns. Sapp was named to the 2013 class in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Not only that, Sapp was a college legend as well, winning the 1991 national championship with Miami and was a unanimous All-American in 1994.
Bringing Sapp to Colorado would only solidify the immense knowledge on the staff next year under Sander.
