Some people can hate me but I feel nostalgic for MW2012. The colors, the atmosphere and the music brings me back to a time when I had no responsibilities and loved all the songs coming out.
Sadly, I feel nothing about FH4, since I have not played it (yet?) and was in the group of “let’s replay NFS Underground 2 until stage 4 / Test Drive 5 / check stuff I missed in early 2000s like Juiced” during covid time. Good though that people find something heartwarming from that awful time (although I was past the study time already so the alienation and anxiety didn’t hit me as much as it could a teenager or even “guy in his 40s” who has to stay at home rather than travel somewhere again).
its the seasons, the snow season on treasure island in particular is quite visually stunning, especially when you mix in the james bond cars, namely the aston martin V8 vantage from the living daylights, for some very bond like screenshots that you can make
FH4 was honestly where I started to gradually fall out of love with the series. Back at launch it felt a lot more… empty compared to FH3 and I really didn’t like the progression of it. The Festival Playlist also seriously soured my perception of the franchise going forward, especially the original iteration of it where you absolutely HAD to do everything it had to offer otherwise you were locked out of the second-tier Playlist reward at the time (until they lowered it to 80% due to the backlash against that).
Doesn’t help that a lot of my group was starting to feel more mixed towards the franchise by that point and it was also during a rather turbulent time of my life as well.
I’m still playing Forza Horizon 4 near daily but I didn’t have a computer powerful enough to run it until 2024, when the game was already on sale at a deep discount due to the imminent delisting.
My favourite aspect of it is the winter driving but I rarely drive anything in the game that isn’t all-wheel drive even in the other seasons.
FH4’s map is more interesting, if it were implemented with FH5’s scale, physics, and sounds it would be astoundingly good. FH5’s mechanics is definitely better, but the car list is meh, the FOMO driven playlist is awful, the auction house is irrelevant, and the map’s just not as good. i noticed recently they’re trying to find places to add more people so it’s not so lonely.
Forza Horizon 4
While buggy … Actually was a 7/10.
Fh5
4/10 and that will never change…
Also Forza Horizon 2 is my precious and it will always be that way!
FH4 had a good map, but I think the best game in the series is FH1.
Wheel support for FH4 was kinda ass because after a while it would start violently jerking the wheel one direction and the only fix was disconnecting and reconnecting the wheel. That said, that map means that for cruising, FH4 was the go as the roads were enjoyable at any speed.
The racing, the engine sounds, the music and the “progression” sucked. After FH3, music in the series did a nosedive.
To me, nostalgia is viewing a game in hindsight in a better light than the sum of its parts. The one game I’m nostalgic for in that sense is TDU, I see it as peak, BUT OH MY GOD TRY GETTING IT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY ON A MODERN PC!!!!!
the simple answer to why horizon 4 is that was the only good racing game that came out at that point that was mainstream
Fh4 was overrated imo 1 was my favourite
Well for my personal opinion, this game has really good optimization especially for low spec PC’s, have some interesting soundtracks (especially Hospital), and… That’s it. Oh, the intro. I almost forgot about that thing.
Overall kinda bored especially the UK map design and ofc we’re not talkin’ anymore about how car engine sounds looks like lmao
bro i am pretty sure when we fast forward 7 years again im 100% convinced that the same will happen with FH6. Its the highst requestet location in all of forza horizon history and when they do japan justice, wich i am pretty sure they will 100% bc they know when japan fails the horizon series will probaly have the same fate as Motorsporte series aka will be dead, it will be the same. And to FH4 i kinda feel the same nostalgig feel maby its bc it was my first forza horizon i ever played and i am pretty sure that is also the reason for many many other players. And as you said in the video already its the musik the car and the intro you turn on the game and you are just like “ahhh damn it feels good” we all know musik is key in everthing just look at horror movies if they playing pink fluffi unicorns and the szenery ist dark and scary you will be sitting her with no unpleasant feeling. So yeah long story short i think a realy big point is the musik and the feeling i get when turning on the game it just feels like i am home or something even tho i am not from the uk XD
FH4 is really weird for me; that’s the game that turned me off from the Forza series. By the time that game released, I felt so burned out from the franchise. I put in so many hours into Horizon 1-3 and also Motorsport, loved them so much. However, FH4 had nothing new or interesting changed much for me to continue playing it. But it’s cool to see people enjoy FH4
Zoomers: yo bro this game sucks
5 years later
Zoomers: Dis game so good, man i wish games were made lile this nowadays
I will never trust most zoomers to give an honest opinion about stuff
14:45 Way to make me feel old 🤣 I was born in 1998. It’s a good point. For us older people, these newer games will probably never hit the same for us, but it does for them. It reminds us of simpler times in our lives when we had less adult responsibilities
I really don’t see why people gloss over this game’s problems. Did we forget about the era when literally EVERYONE got hit with ban waves? And don’t even get me started with the car sounds from this title. The only two things that I can give this game credit for were the ranked online matches and the preorder cars, but the rest of this game was an absolute mess. There was literally no reason to keep playing through the game other than to just keep collecting cars from the seasonal events (which later became the dreaded Festival Playlist). The map itself was extremely boring and doing top speed tests weren’t as fun. The infamous “rally suspension” glitch where your car would dig under the ground and lift up eventually became a feature since its discovery and it felt like they just left it there for the sake of not patching it.
The Bass Arena selection was probably the worst of the titles, a few of them were great and felt like they actually belonged to the station but most of them felt extremely flat and corporate. You could even tell which provider was sponsored, which by any means Monstercat is GREAT but a lot of it came from the label specifically. Additionally, the Fred V & Grafix song that was literally made for this game is still not out, which is extremely annoying because it’s a great track by itself and it does actually have cover art in-game, even being split into the four seasons WITH its own cover designed for each, Microsoft is just holding the song hostage for whatever reason.
In regards to the DLC, I actually have some good memories with Storm Island when I used to hang out with an old Mixer group back then, but realistically it didn’t add anything. You could argue that the drift areas were nice and the addition of treasure chests were a thing, along with the cars that came with it (the Saleen was PREVIOUSLY FREE IN HORIZON 1), but gameplay-wise it added nothing else. The LEGO DLC had a progression system (which became Accolades) but it didn’t really give you a reason to continue building the house and that alone is a huge missed opportunity. It also had the LEAST amount of added cars in a DLC and at its release it wasn’t even finished.
The other thing that bothers me about this game is that it’s LITERALLY the same as Horizon 3. You’re the boss, do sweet FA, do some races, go wild. There was literally no reason to continue racing other than to get the prestige rank in which case THAT’S when you were able to freely access online freeroam but even then post-level you don’t do anything.
It’s not nostalgic just because it’s 7 years, but because it was awesome Forza! When I compare it to the 5….. Except better physics and larger map, it’s honestly quite sht…Cannot wait for 4 normal season year again after the dry-ass Mexico….
first endless, soulless liveservice forzagame. no progress, no purpose, no ending, no win, no credits, no gameover.
music and gfx and gameplay is excellent though. could have been my fav if it could have been beaten/won/completed.
I recently picked up a Series X as FH4 was having crashes on my PC. In some instances, it even crashes on Series X when you select “view car” then try to get inside it when it teleports you to the festival from free roam. But on PC it would crash there, and on Speedzones, maybe Trailblazers too didn’t bother because at that point the PC version was already unplayable for me wanting to complete those. Also picked up all the other Horizon games that’ve been delisted especially Horizon 2 which never got a proper PC port. Horizon 3 had a PC port that is now abandonware so you can possibly “privateer” it. Also FM 5 and 6 just to see for myself how underwhelming these games are compared to the 360 FM games.
I’m nostalgic for the first ever Need for Speed game. It was called Road & Track: The Need for Speed. I played it while I went to kindergarden. I loved how the game looked but I sucked at playing it 😂
