In The Graham Norton Show: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024). Fairytale of New York Screenplay: Jem Finer, Shane MacGowan Performance: The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. It’s a strange combination of traits. I don’t need a genre to stick to one thing, so tonal variation doesn’t bother me – but the execution? That’s another story. The camerawork and acting? Tops. The set design and writing? Not so much. Okay, maybe not *scary*, but definitely weak. I felt the mood: “People are stupid; They don’t question it.” They refer to the bomb with some visual platitude or stage a mass public murder and — surprise! — the police don’t show up. Only our cunning, mysterious hero searches for clues like a murder-mystery brunch. It’s the kind of lazy stuff that makes a pedant want to cry. That said, if you can silence the little voice in your head whispering, “That’s not how the world works,” you might actually have a good time. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the biggest TV and streaming releases of the month. Check out our December calendar for more!
