Asus ROG and Xreal Launch World’s First 240Hz AR Gaming Glasses
Asus ROG and Xreal have introduced the ROG Xreal R1, the world’s first 240Hz micro-OLED gaming Augmented Reality (AR) glasses, priced at $849. Pre-orders are open, with shipping starting on June 1st.
Key Features:
-
Display: The R1 boasts a stunning 240Hz refresh rate, offering an unparalleled visual experience compared to current competitors. It utilizes dual 0.55-inch Sony micro-OLED displays providing 700 nits of peak brightness, a 0.01ms response time, and Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution per eye.
-
Field of View: With a field of view of 57 degrees, the R1 covers approximately 95% of the wearer’s focused vision, creating an immersive virtual screen experience that appears as wide as 171 inches.
-
Weight: Despite its impressive specs, the device is incredibly lightweight at just 91 grams.
-
Processing Power: The Xreal’s proprietary X1 spatial coprocessor manages the menu system, tracking (3DoF with 6DoF support), and latency. It ensures a seamless motion-to-photon lag of just 3ms.
-
Automatic Dimming: The glasses feature electrochromic dimming that adjusts lens transparency automatically based on head tracking.
-
Audio: Built-in Bose-tuned speakers deliver rich, immersive sound.
Bundles and Compatibility:
The R1 comes bundled with the ROG Control Dock, offering DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports for connecting to various devices like PCs, PS5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch. Alternatively, it can connect directly to smartphones, tablets, laptops, or handhelds via USB-C DisplayPort output.
The glasses integrate seamlessly with the ROG Ally app, allowing users to control brightness, screen size, aspect ratio, tint, and spatial settings from their handheld device while the R1 focuses on delivering an immersive gaming experience.
Competitive Landscape:
While Meta dominates the smart glasses market with its Ray-Ban frames (sold over 7 million in 2025), the R1 is a display-focused AR device, distinct from VR headsets like the Meta Quest 3. Xreal also offers the X1S, a cinematic model with higher resolution but only 120Hz refresh rate and launched at CES 2026 for $449.
