Anthropic in talks to raise $30bn at a $900bn valuation
May 13, 2026 – 8:41 am
Anthropic is in early discussions to secure a new funding round of at least $30 billion at a pre-money valuation exceeding $900 billion, according to Bloomberg, citing sources close to the matter. If finalized, this would represent the largest fundraising in the company’s history and surpass OpenAI’s valuation.
The round is not yet final; no term sheet has been signed, and one source suggests it could close as early as the end of May. Earlier reports in April indicated a potential funding round of up to $50 billion at the same valuation range.
Pace of Growth:
Impressively, this proposed fundraising would occur just three months after Anthropic secured a $30 billion Series G round at a $380 billion post-money valuation. At the time, this was the second-largest private financing in history. A new round at $900 billion pre-money would significantly surpass that figure.
Revenue and Adoption:
Anthropic’s rapid growth is reflected in its revenue trajectory. CEO Dario Amodei reported in spring 2026 that the company had reached a $30 billion annual run-rate, up from approximately $14 billion in mid-February and $87 million in January 2024. Enterprise adoption has been a key driver, with over 1,000 enterprise customers spending more than $1 million annually on Claude, a figure that has doubled since February.
Strategic Plans:
Anthropic has demonstrated its ambition through strategic initiatives like a $1.5 billion joint venture with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and General Atlantic to integrate Claude into private equity portfolio companies.
Competitive Landscape:
The proposed valuation places Anthropic above OpenAI’s most recent valuation of $852 billion, setting the stage for an intriguing competitive dynamic. However, the sustainability of this ordering in the private market later in the year remains to be seen.
