Slack’s AI Update: Transforming Slackbot into a Desktop Agent

Salesforce gives Slackbot 30 new AI powers, and a strategy that looks a lot like Microsoft’s

April 6, 2026 – 8:13 am

In short:

Salesforce unveiled over 30 new AI capabilities for Slackbot on March 31, 2026, marking the most comprehensive overhaul of the platform since its $27.7 billion acquisition in 2021. This update transforms Slackbot from a conversational assistant into an advanced system capable of:

  • Transcribing meetings across various video platforms.
  • Monitoring users’ desktop activity.
  • Executing tasks through third-party tools using the Model Context Protocol.
  • Acting as a lightweight CRM.

These new features are powered by Anthropic’s Claude and are currently available for Business+ and Enterprise+ subscribers, with limited access for free and Pro users starting in April. From summer 2026, Slack will be automatically included for every new Salesforce customer.

Slack’s Most Ambitious Overhaul Since Acquisition

This announcement follows a January 2026 update that introduced capabilities like drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and searching inboxes. The March 2026 update goes significantly further by introducing reusable AI skills. Users can define workflows once and save them as named skills, allowing Slackbot to automatically recognize and execute these tasks without requiring manual configuration each time.

Meeting Intelligence and Desktop Agent

Another key feature is meeting intelligence, which enables Slackbot to listen to calls on Zoom, Google Meet, or Slack Huddles by accessing a user’s desktop audio through the Slack application. It doesn’t just transcribe; it identifies decisions made during the call, assigns action items to participants, and delivers structured summaries upon call conclusion.

The desktop agent extends Slackbot’s functionality beyond the Slack app itself. It monitors screen activity and utilizes a user’s deals, conversations, calendar, and habits to proactively suggest follow-ups and draft messages. This feature raises significant privacy concerns due to its level of access to users’ computers.
