The 6th of April holds immense excitement as the British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph unveils its highly anticipated range of six new 350cc motorcycles. Indian dealerships have already begun accepting unofficial bookings, with a refundable Rs 5,000 deposit.
This move is primarily due to the recent GST revisions, which tax engines below 350cc at 18% and those above 350cc at 40%. Triumph aims to capitalize on this by introducing smaller-displacement models with lower taxes. Prices are expected to decrease by Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 for these new bikes.
New 350cc Powerplant
The central attraction is the new 349cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, derived from the Triumph-Bajaj 398cc platform. It’s expected to produce 35-40 PS of power and 32–33 Nm of torque, with enhanced low-end and mid-range torque, albeit with a slight dip in peak performance.
The Lineup
-
Triumph Speed 350: A modern-retro roadster, competing with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and Honda CB350. It will retain its minimalist design but is expected to be priced between Rs 2.33 lakh to Rs 2.40 lakh (a reduction of Rs 15,000–20,000).
-
Triumph Speed T4 350cc: An entry-level roadster, serving as a more affordable alternative to the Speed 350 at around Rs 1.95 lakh (a decrease of Rs 20,000–25,000).
-
Triumph Thruxton 350: Based on the Thruxton 400, this bike is the entry-level café racer from Triumph, offering a distinctive style and performance tailored for urban riding.
